EVERYTHING TIMOTHY
Illustrator, artist, designer, professor...
Who is Timothy Banks?
Hi there! I’m an illustrator, artist, and designer based in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina.
My work crosses many creative paths, but at its heart, it’s all about storytelling. Illustration, for me, is a narrative art form—a way to bring ideas to life visually, and I’ve had the privilege of pursuing this field for many years. If you’re curious about where it all started, one of my very first illustration projects was No Pets Allowed—a book that’s still in print today.
Alongside illustration, I’m also passionate about painting. My gallery work includes original pieces that reflect my love for color, characters, and texture. If you’d like to own one of these paintings, they’re available for purchase and shipped directly from my studio to your home.
I’ve had the chance to work with some incredible clients over the years—brands and publications like Nike, TOWN and Paste Magazines, Egmont, Faber & Faber, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Adult Swim. I’m equally proud of the work I’ve done here in my Charleston community, including event posters for the Charleston Farmers Market, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and the always-magnificent YALL Fest, thanks to my friends at Blue Bicycle Books. You might also find my work in the College of Charleston Magazine, where I’ve illustrated features—and yes, I also teach digital illustration as an adjunct professor there.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have my work recognized by industry leaders. I earned a gold medal for editorial illustration from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and have received honors from Spectrum, 3x3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, PLAY! Illustration, and Showcase 100.
If you’re looking for something fun to dive into, check out my latest book, The Hiking Viking. It’s a whimsical tale full of humor, adventure, soaring landscapes, and—you guessed it—Vikings. You can grab a copy right here in my online shop!
I always enjoy hearing from people, whether you’re a fellow artist, a fan of the work, or someone curious about collaborating. Drop me a note, or say hello on social media (links are at the top and bottom of this page).
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy exploring my portfolio!
